Al-Marsad – The Arab Centre for Human Rights in the Golan Calls on the Israeli Occupation Army to Refrain from Targeting Water Wells Supplying the Occupied Syrian Villages Since 08.12.2024
Al-Marsad – The Arab Centre for Human Rights in the Golan sent an urgent message to the Israeli occupation army, calling on it to refrain from targeting the water wells that have been supplying the occupied Syrian villages since 08.12.2024, and to restore water supply to the villages whose wells have been targeted.
In its message, Al-Marsad stated that the targeting of water wells by the Israeli occupation in the occupied Golan region following the fall of the Assad regime is in contradiction to international law. It violates Syrian citizens’ right to access water, as well as their right to life and dignity, and may lead to catastrophic consequences in the region.
The First Additional Protocol to the 1949 Geneva Convention prohibits targeting civilian drinking water sources for any reason. Al-Marsad emphasized in its message that “the right to water is a universal right, recognized since ancient times as part of universal human rights, and is directly linked to the right to a dignified life and to life and dignity itself.”
Several media reports have indicated that the Israeli occupation army targeted wells surrounding the village of Kodnah in western Quneitra suburbs, leading to a water outage in the village itself and in other surrounding villages.
