Joint letter from Al-Marsad and Adalah to Israeli Ministry of Infrastructure on illegal oil exploration in Occupied Syrian Golan
In February 2016, Al-Marsad and Adalah wrote to the Israeli Ministry of Infrastructure demanding the immediate cancellation of permits to begin drilling for oil in 11 different locations in the Occupied Syrian Golan – underlining that under international humanitarian law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, the Occupied Syrian Golan is “occupied territory, and its inhabitants are under occupation and are considered protected peoples…the oil is property that cannot be exploited, and doing so would be considered a war crime under the Rome Statute.”
